Update: The students won
Just in case somebody reads my blog: The government in Bangladesh had to give in to students protests agains a tax on university tuition fees.
According to a press release on Monday, the government does not want to create interruption at educational institutions and sufferings in public life. Thus, the government decided to withdraw the 7.5% VAT imposed on private universities, medicals and engineering colleges.
The government also urged the students to go back to school and stop the protests.
Protesting students have jammed the traffic in Dhaka during several days and caused a total standstill on Sunday (first work day of the week) and Monday.
